As we have now started the new year, how will this month compare to the beginning of last year?
Top Animal-Origin Product – Dairy products (milk, cheese, butter and other dairy)
Dairy was the UK’s largest animal-origin export by volume at the start of 2025, ahead of meat and poultry. January trade updates show dairy export values were up year-on-year, driven mainly by higher prices rather than volumes.
Top Destination – The European Union (EU)
The EU remained the UK’s main destination for animal-origin products in January 2025. Within the EU, France, Ireland and the Netherlands were the leading individual markets, especially for dairy, beef and lamb.
Important Nuance
While the EU was the top destination overall, China was the single largest destination for UK animal offal, taking well over half of offal exports by volume in early 2025.
